PRECOTE®

Precote® is a microencapsulated functional coating technology applied to screws, bolts, and other threaded fasteners before assembly. During installation, the microcapsules rupture and activate, creating a reliable thread-locking effect that prevents self-loosening. Depending on the application, Precote® coatings can also provide effective thread sealing.

Applied during the manufacturing process, Precote® coatings eliminate the need for additional thread-locking adhesives during assembly, reducing production time while ensuring highly repeatable assembly performance. Widely used in the automotive, electronics, home appliance, and e-mobility industries, Precote® technology provides a reliable and efficient solution for high-volume production.

At Çinkosan, we apply Precote® 85, Precote® 85-3 (fast-curing), and Precote® 85-8 (for small thread sizes ≤ M6), providing the most suitable solution for different fastener sizes and application requirements.

• Microencapsulated coating that is activated during assembly by pressure and shear forces. It reaches full cure at room temperature in approximately 24 hours, exceeds the minimum requirements of DIN 267-27 within 6 hours for the standard grade, and within 30 minutes for the fast-curing Precote® 85-3.
• Reliably prevents fastener loosening while providing a consistent coefficient of friction of 0.10–0.15 in accordance with ISO 16047.
• Can provide effective thread sealing, depending on the application, while protecting threaded joints against corrosion.
• Pre-applied coating shortens assembly time and allows easy disassembly when required.
• Solvent-free, dry-to-touch (griffest) coating.
• Ensures excellent repeatability in high-volume production processes.
• Suitable for operating temperatures from −60°C to +170°C (DIN 267-27), and up to +200°C for selected grades (GMW 14657).
• Demonstrates resistance to a wide range of automotive fluids—including engine oil, gasoline, brake fluid (DOT 4), antifreeze, manual and automatic transmission oils, and AdBlue®—after 1,000 hours of testing.
• Shelf life of 4 years when stored below 30°C and at 65% relative humidity.
• Meets or exceeds the specifications of leading automotive manufacturers, including Audi, BMW, Bosch, Ford, General Motors, Toyota, and Volkswagen.
